Algun a vez leí una guía que definía esta ciudad de la antigua Alemania del Este como “La Florencia del norte”, por sus palacios, casas señoriales y demás maravillosos edificios que salpican esta gran ciudad. Salvando las distancias, no andaba muy equivocada esta guia de cuyo nombre no puedo acordarme.
Con más de medio millón de habitantes, Dresden es una ciudad atravesada por 
el rio Elba, el cual, hace unos años tuvo la interesante de inundar toda la ciudad y hacer renovar gran parte de los museos o edificios. A eso, hay que unirle los aun MUY visibles restos de la IIWW y pasividad comunista que decidió no restaurar varias iglesias y edificios. Por lo tanto, si bien la ciudad ahora merece una visita, en unos años, cuando este finalizada, seguro se convierte en una de esas ciudades que NO debes dejar de ver si se esta en Alemania. Claro que, si nunca se hubiera destruido nada, aun tendría mas gracia… aunque, eso nunca lo sabremos. Pero, pues para ver los restos de lo que fué y cómo llegaron a dejarla, aqui teneis algunas fatichuelas que nos dona internet. Bastente interesantes.

Que visitar? Pues lo de siempre… todo. Como norma orientativa, se puede buscar el Elba, pues a sus dos orillas es que se alzan los edificios mas bellos de la ciudad. Podemos comenzar la
visita por el Theaterplatz, donde se encuentra la oficina de turismo. El perfecto Semperoper, teatro de la Opera, la catedral, el Palacio Real ( Schloss )… palacios & preciosos edificios irán apareciendo a cada esquina. Muchos de ellos, demasiado nuevos, pues han sido reconstruidos hace poco tiempo, pero siempre guardando la apariencia del original. En fin, lo de siempre en las grandes ciudades. Para conocerla, el mapa es util durante las primeras horas, para que te guíe a los lugares de visita “obligada” y a posteriori, lo mejor es seguir el instinto de uno, perderse, deambular, investigar y encontrar lugares que seguro te gustan tanto o más que los clásicos.
Para alojarse, recomiendo encarecidamente el hostel en el que nos quedamos. Esta situado
en una zona underground, alternativa de la ciudad. A pocos minutos paseando del centro. A primera vista, la falta de arboles, iluminación y tal vez, la negrura y poca gracia de los edificios pueden dar un raro sabor de boca. Pero, a media tarde, cuando los bares comienzas a poblarse de gente joven local, la zona tiene un encanto especial. No lo dudeis, y salid a disfrutar de la cerveza de la región, no os defraudará. El hostal, es el Mondpalast ( Katharinenstrasse 11-13 ). Desde 15 elfos, nuevísimo, habitaciones enormes con sillón, balcón, grandes ventanales… cocina totalmente equipada, baños de lujo… el mejor de nuestro inter-rail por tierras centroeuropeas. Eso si, según a cual de las 2 estaciones de tren llegues, puede quedaros mas o menos a mano. Pero no pasa nada, el tranvía os lleva en 10 minutos.

En cuanto al tiempo a dedicar a la ciudad, con un dia completo sería perfecto, excepto si os gustase visitar alguno de los varios museos con los que cuenta la ciudad, o la utiliceis como base para realizar excursiones.

Suponiendo 
que estamos algo cansados de Dresden, queremos dedicarle tiempo a alguna ciudad o pueblo cercano. Para los primeros, Leipzig queda a menos de 2 horas y es otra ciudad que tras la IIWW quedó totalmente devastada y comienza a recobrar la grandeza que en su dia tuvo. Sino, si quereis descansar de las ciudades, os recomiendo el viaje que hicimos. Seguid el Elba dirección República Checa y visitad la fortaleza de Königstein y parad en Kurort Rathen para pasear por los bosques, descansar y disfrutar de la naturaleza. Desde la fortaleza las vistas son impresioanantes, viendo perfectamente toda esta zona conocida como la Sajonia Suiza. Tal vez, si se anda con prisa, esta opción es demasiada ligth, pero tras 2 semanas pateando grandes urbes, un dia de descanso por la profunda Sajonia viene de perlas. Si se viaja en coche, entonces el dia puede salir redondo y puede recorrerse como se debe esta parte tan bonita del pais.
